On the border of light

2.-4. May 2025

Malá pevnost, Terezín, Czech Republic

Site-specific audiovisual project — a series of immersive night tours at the Terezín Small Fortress Memorial, created on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Czechoslovakia from Nazism. Developed in collaboration with Memory of the Nation and directed by Viktor Portel, the project brought to life a powerful narrative filled with authentic memories of heroism and the painful fates of those who lived through the time.

A "silent" guide led visitors through the memorial grounds, using a portable speaker to relay recorded testimonies of eyewitnesses. The sensitive use of light and sound shaped an atmosphere that amplified the genius loci and formed the emotional and narrative arc of the entire experience.

At the conclusion of the tour, visitors arrived in the fourth courtyard, where a black cube had been placed — an object from which a strong beam of light projected a symbolic cone into the sky: a window of hope. This moment served as a powerful reminder of the only glimpse of freedom the prisoners could see from within this place of suffering.
