Art of Asia Across Space and Time

National Gallery Prague – Salm Palace, Prague, Czech Republic

The Asian Art Collection of the National Gallery Prague is presented in the Salm Palace in a new exhibition Art of Asia Across Space and Time. We contributed to the creation of audiovisual and interactive elements that present five thousand years of artistic traditions of Asia and the Islamic world, set within cultural relations with Central Europe.

Part of the exhibition is also an animated interpretation of the 19th-century artwork The Wheel of Life. The traditional Buddhist painting of the bhavachakra, depicting the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, had been stored in depositories for many years. Through animation, we brought it to life and allowed its symbolism to speak again to today’s audience. The nearly one-meter-tall painting, read from the center, depicts six realms of existence and their inner dynamics — from the world of gods to the hell realms.
